Resolution Run 5K January 1, 2011

I was excited to finally be back to running, considering I had been sick for most of the month of December (and the end of November) I was only able to get out the Thursday before New Year's Day for a 2 mile run, so didn't know what kind of energy I would have come race day.
After some very cold days, it actually warmed up a bit on Saturday, around 42* (this seems warm to me now days hehehehe) It was a very heavy fog of a morning, which just kinda gave a spooky vibe. I knew I needed to warm up a bit (and "add" to my mileage for my week's total) so I parked the car and walked .3 to registration table.....got my goodies, walked back to the car and another trip down to the starting like and to the car.
The race was held at Bur-Mil Park which I run at often, but since we had had some really cold weather and snow earlier in the week, the path was still frozen in places. They had to reroute the race to run through the main entrance of the park down through the residential area that surrounds the park. Only aspect I did not like about this was the starting line, which was at the bottom of a hill. I can handle hills but had never started OFF the race this way.
My pace was decent and consistent. There was a couple in front of me that did the run/walk options so we would pass one another (since I did run the whole race) Once I saw the finish line (and at the bottom of a hill of course) I shifted to high speed to get through the finish line hopefully under 40 minutes.
My finish time was 38:01 so I got it :)
Happy New Year to One And All :)

  1. I guess since you had to start off going up it was only fair that you get to go down to come in to the finish line! Congrats on getting under 40 --- especially after not being able to run for a while!

And I'm with you on the temperature. Now I figure if it is above 33 then it is official "warm"!
