Salem Lake 10K

This was the first time I ran this distance in a race setting. I was a bit nervous as my workout routine up to today has not been as good as I would have hoped it for.
Luckily left early enough from home and headed over to Winston-Salem. I'm glad I did because parking ended up putting me about a mile away from the start line. Hey, I needed the warm up so this helped me in a way, of course the mile BACK to the car after the race, not so nice (mostly uphill, too)
Salem Lake is very beautiful and the morning was beautiful as well. A bit warm (technically it's Fall) but the temperature goddess did not get that memo.
I did not bring my mp3 player because the website specified that they were not allowed, but I could have easily used it just because of my placing between other runners. So 6 miles with no music and just my mind to keep me company.
I had 3 goals for this race.
#1. To run the whole race (which I did)
#2. To complete the race under the 90 minute cut-off time (I did, around 88 minutes)
#3. To not place last (542 out of 550)
So all goal complete. Not the best time but I can only improve. Of course, right now I'm suffering some horrible leg cramps in my right leg, which seems to happen most often with I add mileage to a run. I hope I can remedy this in the future.

  1. Your #3 goal was the same as my first 10K race goal! I think I came in 49 our of 51 or something like that! But I certainly didn't run the whole thing. 3 10Ks later, I still haven't run the full thing. Some day I will.

Good job on completely all 3 of your goals!
