I have to admit, it's been a bit weird not doing races that last couple of months. My schedule just got super busy and I was never in town when races were going on. So today's race, the Race the Bar 5K was my first for 2012.
Today was somewhat of a whirlwind. I was running late heading out from Greensboro to Winston-Salem (had to head back to house to get my mp3 player, I wasn't about to attempt another race with out) so we pull up to BB&T Field at Wake Forest at about 2:50. Race start at 3pm. Jog to pick up my number and head back down to starting line.
It had rained earlier in the day which was good, because it was still pretty warm out at 3pm (thoughts and memories of past Beat the Head 5K races) I hadn't been training as I would have liked, so I took this race easy. Good choice as I did start to feel overheated at mile 2 and then had some issues with my left knee. I ended up walking about a half mile and just gingerly ran past the finish line.
Free beer line was a bit too long and the music was way to loud to stand around and have a conversation. So I said hello to friends I saw and headed out to Foothills Brewery. Been meaning to get there for a year and it never worked out.
So alas, the first race of the year is complete with a finish time of 42:52
I guess I can only get better :)
