My attempt at 2 races didn't quite go as planned. The morning was beautiful, perfect for the St. Leo's 5K in Winston-Salem. I took it easy on this run, knowing I would be running later in the day. Completed it in 42:44. Had a nice pre-race warm up and post race cool down of .5 miles each due to parking. Had a hearty breakfast and just some veggies for lunch to prep for the 5 miler.
By 3pm it was VERY warm (once again) I knew I would also be running this race slow (doing both races was to help me get my miles in for training for the 1/2 marathon) Well, I guess I was going so slow with the 5 mile runners that by the time I got to the street that I would continue on, the cones were already in place and they flagged me through with the 1 mile runners. Needless to say, my attempt for miles failed and I even had a terrible time for a 1 mile run (16:26) To redeem myself I headed out the next morning (15 degrees cooler) and completed 7 a mile run through the park :)
Well dang! You DO like to get in the miles. I never have enough oomph after any race to go out and finish SEVEN the next day. That's awesome!
