I had recently purchased some of the Champion brand running shorts (with the built in support) because YAY! I had lost enough weight to fit into them. I've been running in them for 2 weeks during my morning's out, but this was a first for actual race day. Had my mp3 player clipped to the waistband and I was ready to go and start out faster than usual. NOPE! After the first two steps the shorts starting shifting. They didn't fall down but exposed my big 'ole belly for a good 30 seconds while I grabbed the mp3 and held it in my hand. So yes, embarassing!
I did complete the first mile in 10:54. But I tell you, Kernersville is quite hilly. It seemed for the next 1.5 miles it was steady uphill battle. Also, the race route was the 4th of July Parade route. So plenty of folks watching (but not necessarily cheering folks on). It was just a weird feeling. With the last .5 miles I kicked it up a notch but also had to hang on to my shorts once again. I know I should be happy (for the weight loss) and next time I will just have to tie my shorts a bit tighter!
Official time : 37:25
